An important announcement for department chairs about early registration and suite requests for the 2013 MLA Annual Convention in Boston

E-mail notification regarding early registration and housing access for ADFL-member departments will be sent to chairs in mid-August. If you will be away from your office in mid-August, please alert a staff member to look for this e-mail message. Departments must be members of ADFL to receive the e-mail notification. Chairs must be current MLA members to access the online forms. Early access for chairs of ADFL-member departments will be available only through the online system.

The online convention registration forms will be available to chairs through the ADFL Web site. You will need to have the following information available to log in, register, and make hotel reservations:

  • department chair’s ADFL ID number and chair-only password
  • primary room occupant’s MLA member ID and password (only current MLA members may access the forms; nonmembers may become MLA members online with a credit card)
  • names and e-mail addresses for all room occupants

NOTE: All room occupants must be MLA members and must register for the convention by 15 September to remain on the hotel reservation. Only persons who are not involved in the study of language and literature and are not attending the convention are exempt from this requirement.

To take advantage of the early access, the department must have been an ADFL member for 2011–12 and the chair must be a current MLA member. MLA membership may be renewed or reinstated online with a credit card during the early-access period.

ADFL membership is a departmental (not personal) membership. MLA membership is for an individual; this is separate from the departmental membership in ADFL.

If the department chair will not be conducting interviews and elects to give the early access to a member of the interview team, that person must be a current MLA member to register for the convention and request hotel accommodations.

Departments are limited to one hotel reservation through the early-access registration. Additional reservations must be made through the regular member registration and housing process, which opens in early September on the MLA Web site.

A person may appear on only one convention hotel reservation.

Persons involved in the study of language and literature or from related academic fields must be registered for the convention to make hotel reservations.

Convention registration and hotel reservations for non–MLA members (including nonmembers who are chairs of ADFL-member departments) open in early October on the MLA Web site.
